Can you write a story someone would like to read?

Here's the challenge: can you write a short story that someone would like to read? People enjoy reading things for a variety of reasons, if you think about it people like to read things that are funny, or interesting, or exciting, or thought provoking or ... well, you know what you like to read.

I will give you some sentences (listed below) and you need to write a story using those sentences and adding other sentences. You could add names, details, dialogue or anything you like to make an entertaining story. (Make sure you add an ending!)

Here are the sentences you need to use:

It rained
She made hot chocolate
The cat came in
The cat jumped onto her lap
She heard a sound
She was afraid
She recognised him

Have fun writing!

  1. It rained, her longing reached the heavens and moved the hearts of the Gods. She made hot chocolate and sat down on the carpet in front of the television. The cat came in from her bedroom with lazy eyes, yawning then stretching. The cat jumped onto her lap - purr, purr. Suddenly, she heard a sound. The door in the kitchen flung open loudly. She was afraid. Cat in one hand and hot chocolate in the other. She didn't know which she would throw first at the intruder. But, as the man finally came to view, she recognized him and shouted "Daddy, you're home!"
